McDonald’s near NRG Stadium hosted 200 underserved children for an appearance from special guests Grimace, Hamburglar, and Birdie

Two hundred local children received new bicycles courtesy of the Black McDonald’s Owner/Operators Association of Greater Houston (BMOA) at the McDonald’s located at 1619 S. Loop West on Saturday, Feb. 10. The children and their families took pictures with Birdie, Hamburglar, and Grimace, and got an up-close look at the Ronald McDonald Shoe Car. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston were on site with their Ronald McDonald Care Mobile units providing health screenings and teeth cleanings. The Houston Police Department’s Certified Bike Patrol Team also shared bike safety tips. The bicycles that were purchased at a generous discount from Academy Sports & Outdoors, arrived at the restaurant in a McDonald’s 18-wheeler and included free bicycle helmets.

BMOA comprises 8 local business people who collectively own and operate 42 McDonald’s restaurants in Greater Houston. BMOA is committed to supporting its communities and encourages the development of successful African-American leaders and businesses. BMOA worked with local organizations, including: Bethel Family Church, Change Happens, New Faith Church, and Omega Psi Phi, to give the gift of a bike to the children they served.

“We’re excited to give these deserving children a brand-new bike,” said local McDonald’s Owner/Operator Dave Moss Jr. “Giving back to our communities is incredibly important to McDonald’s, and we’re proud to provide these families with a fun way for their kids to stay active. We hope each child will enjoy their new bike for years to come.”

The McDonald’s Owner/Operators Association of Greater Houston (MOAGH) is a co-operative of local business owners who own and operate more than 300 McDonald’s restaurants in Greater Houston. MOAGH-owned McDonald’s restaurants employ more than 15,000 people in the Greater Houston community.
