2021 super p&e

Donna Franklin has almost 30 years in the broadcasting industry and as Program Director at The Choice 90.9 KTSU, she finds this to be one of the most rewarding positions she has had in her career.  Not only does she enjoy making dreams come true for those who aspire to be in this industry, but she gets an opportunity to teach the basic principles of radio to the students at Texas Southern University.

Donna was born in Chicago and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in her teenage years.  Growing up in Chicago, listening to WVON is where her dream to become a radio announcer started.  Her dream came true in Cincinnati working at one of the oldest Black AM stations in the country, WCIN.  From there, she migrated to Houston, where she hosted “Smooth Jazz” Saturday nights at Sunny 99.1.  Then the WAVE came to town, and she started out part-time as a weekend host.  And her blessings came when she was offered the position of morning show host, making history as the only single female to host a morning show in this market.  After the WAVE, she was offered a position at The Choice 90.9 KTSU.

This has truly been an amazing journey for Donna, having the pleasure of managing over 30 uniquely talented individuals who we hear on the airwaves daily.  Leading the programming at KTSU, her goal is always to educate, inspire, empower, entertain, inform, elevate, and unite the listening audience through music, as well as information through their news and public affairs shows.  Donna is living her passion, and without the support of the listening audience, she knows the station’s success would not be possible.

Donna holds a BS degree from Springfield College.  She received her MA from Texas Southern University.

And not only is she directing programming at The Choice 90.9 KTSU, but you can also hear her captivating voice behind the mic on her jazz show, Monday through Thursday 9am-12noon.  Donna remains thankful to The Choice 90.9 KTSU for being a community-driven station that allows her to live her passion.
