One of Houston’s top spots for fine Southern cuisine, The Greasy Spoon Soul Food Bistro, has made it on the big screen! The Greasy Spoon recently hosted a private watch party for their appearance on Food Paradise, which aired on the Cooking Channel. Restaurant owner and entrepreneur, Max Bozeman II received the great honor to be featured on the show, highlighting two of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, giving a national television audience a behind the scenes look at how his Southern culinary specialties are created.

The event was hosted at the luxurious Sky Lounge at the Market Square Tower, with music from DJ Hardbody Kiotti and bites from Meals by Mel.  Bozeman’s Cooking Channel segment provided this chef the opportunity to reach a broader audience, introducing the nation to the love put into The Soulfood Stuffed Turkey Leg and The Boss Seafood Stack.  Along with those dishes, the segment also highlighted his dirty rice and collard greens topped with Cajun inspired fried catfish, lobster tail, and sautéed shrimp and crabmeat smothered in Cajun seafood sauce.  And for an added bonus, the segment featured in real-time, Houstonians experiencing Bozeman’s fare. 

Bozeman grew up in a family of restauranters and entrepreneurs, so you can say it is just in his blood.  After many business ventures, he decided to go solo by creating The Greasy Spoon, which he refers to as his “baby.” He is proud to see this restaurant not only provide Houston with a great dining experience, but also show customers a glimpse of his values and culture. Bozeman walks in humility, giving glory to God and the amazing like-minded team members standing beside him to make this what it is and all that it can be.  “Alone we can go fast, but together we can go far,” he said.    

As a serial entrepreneur, Bozeman has been in partnerships and collaborations for many years. His advice to entrepreneurs is, “Master your craft.  People pay for mastery, not mediocrity.”  He also emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing technology and being educated before starting a business.  He added, “Continue to become better every day, and don’t ever become comfortable and complacent.” 

And you shouldn’t be surprised coming from a family with a cooking background, that his favorite chef is in the family.  “My grandmother, Carol Dixon, is my favorite chef.   She was respected in and out of the kitchen, and she was the person who if you were doing anything with food, you wanted her opinion, expertise, and thumbs up.  And if you wanted to eat anything, she was the one who you wanted to prepare it.  Every dish she made, she prepared it with love,” Bozeman expressed.

The Greasy Spoon watch party was one for the books! Before the night ended, Bozeman announced that in addition to the new food truck for the restaurant, he will also be opening a second location in Pearland, Texas, in the near future.
