2021 super p&e
Rodney Reed is the UPS Sweetwater package division manager in the South Operations Red River District. He has held multiple positions within UPS since his career started in 1995, having worked his way up the UPS ladder from entry level positions through hard work, sacrifice, and the support of his family.
He is a self motivated individual and enjoys the challenge of improving statistical numbers in his assigned centers. He is relied upon to improve numbers in categories such as safety, productivity, efficiency, and employer/employee relations. One of the greatest benefits of working at UPS has been the relationships and partnerships he has built. Reed enjoys a good challenge, and is driven by formulating strategies to improve company processes. He believes in challenging people to be their best, work with integrity in the workplace, develop a positive reputation, and uphold a positive image. These aspects have driven his work ethic and taken him far in his life and career.
His path to UPS was coincidental. At the time, he had just completed his US Navy tour in the Middle East where he fought in Desert Storm. He was attending Victoria College in Victoria, Texas, when he started working part time with UPS because the hours were suitable for him to continue his studies. This is where it all began, and he has not looked back.
Over his 25 year career with UPS, he has found that using his role to help others is why he loves it so much. Reed’s roles have afforded him multiple mentoring opportunities, and he has used his experiences to inspire other young men and women and to help advise/mentor them in their respective career paths. On several occasions he is asked to participate in seminars and workshops. These workshops and seminars provide youth with helpful tools to prepare them for success in the workforce. The youth are taught things such as interviewing skills, like how to dress for an interview, how to maintain eye contact and proper posture when speaking, and how to deliver a proper handshake. Reed feels that his influence on the youth has been rewarding, as he sees they are our future. He knows that making a positive influence on our youth is an investment in our future, and this kind of influence will live on beyond his years.
