2021 super p&e

It was not enough for Clark Atlanta University alum, Derrick Dixon, to receive his MBA and bring his talents to an already existing company.  His dream was to start businesses that would allow him the opportunity to hire individuals who were not afforded the same opportunities as he was to pursue a higher education.

Following his college graduation, Derrick became a serial entrepreneur, starting one of the most popular record labels in the South, Wreckshop Records.  Wreckshop Nation is an independently owned entertainment company focused on promoting and producing digital content, products, and services for artists, while simultaneously embracing the southern hip hop culture that developed in Houston in the late 1990’s.

Through Wreckshop Records, over 2.5 million record sales were made, which garnered the attention of several major recording labels, including the high-profile label Def Jam Records.  After much negotiation, Derrick signed a contract with Capitol Records. At the time, it was unheard of for this type of success to be possible through an independent label. Derrick’s interaction with a major record label also helped to build his reputation with other professionals in the industry, proving that he was a capable, savvy entrepreneur who possessed a deep understanding of Houston’s hip hop scene, artists, and community.

Today, Wreckshop Nation, the current name of what was formerly known as Wreckshop Records, has clout in the hip hop industry that very few labels can match. It was responsible for the success of Fat Pat and Big Moe, two iconic artists who were instrumental in raising awareness of Houston’s unique, tightly-knit hip hop community.

Adding to his already impressive business resume, Derrick has opened seven bail bonds locations and a medical transport company in Texas.  Also a leader in the real estate business, Derrick is an avid flipper and investor in the real estate market.

Despite the 2020 pandemic, he launched the Hustlerholic Podcast and Network, a media platform dedicated to the financial and entrepreneurial literacy of impoverished individuals and communities.

Derrick has made it his life’s mission to give back to the communities that birthed him and made him the “Hustlerholic” he has become today.
