RodeoHouston Athletes Claim Championship Title and $65K Prize

Nine athletes in eight events earned RodeoHouston Championship titles and each took home the $65,000 grand prize, along with a championship saddle and belt buckle, during the finals.  

Riley Webb secured a win in tie-down roping with a time of 7.5 seconds. This marks his second RodeoHouston title with his first in 2023.

“I knew I had to make a great run,” Webb said. “The calf was good. I was able to put a Huey on him and was fast enough.”

Rocker Steiner claimed the bareback riding title with a score of 91, bringing his total event earnings to $71,000. He won the Finals aboard Agent Lynx of Calgary Stampede.

“I knew that was the horse to win it on,” Steiner said. “It bucks, it’s electric. It’s what the judges like to see.”

In team roping, Derrick Begay and Colter Todd took home the hardware with a time of 5.8 seconds. Their combined earnings totaled $143,500.

“I’ve heard guys always say, ‘It hasn’t sunk in yet’,” Begay said. “I think we can relate to that.”

Ryder Wright won his first RodeoHouston title in saddle bronc, scoring 87 in the final round on Mortician of Cervi Championship Rodeo.

“This rodeo is huge,” Wright said. “They upped the money this year for the final four — with that much money it’s life-changing.”

Tucker Allen won the steer wrestling title with a time of 4.2 seconds, earning $69,000 in total.

“It’s unreal,” Allen said. “It makes my hopes of a world buckle that much more in sight.”

Kassie Mowry won the barrel racing title with a time of 14.5 seconds, riding her horse “Kernel” and bringing her total earnings to $73,000.

“It was just a good, typical run for [Kernel],” Mowry said. “I didn’t realize he was running that hard when they said my time.”

In breakaway roping, Taylor Munsell claimed the championship title with a time of 2.7 seconds.

“A win like this definitely helps go with the rest of the year,” Munsell said. “It’s super exciting to have a little money to make it a little more fun this year [in rodeo].”

Tristen Hutchings claimed the bull riding championship with a score of 91.5 aboard Dialed in of Double S Bull Co. / Cervi, bringing his RodeoHouston earnings to $73,000.

“I’m very excited to be able to wake up every day and look at my two guitars and my Houston saddle,” Hutchings said. “I’m excited that I beat some of the guys in there because they’re tough competitors.”
