HOUSTON — The Houston community, United States politicians, entertainers and a number of dignitaries paid their respects to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who recently passed away at the age of 74.
A series of memorial services were held over several days. The congresswoman’s body lay in state at Houston City Hall on July 29, where numerous city, county, and state officials, including President Joe Biden, gathered to pay their respects.
On Tuesday, a viewing and remembrance took place at God’s Grace Community Church, followed by a community farewell and appreciation service at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday.
The “Celebration of Life” service was held on Thursday at Fallbrook Church and was attended by notable figures, such as Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Attorney Benjamin Crump, Stevie Wonder, Shirley Cesar, Yolanda Adams, and so many more.
