Vigil to be held May 15th at 8 p.m. – Southwest HPD Substation, 13097 Nitida St., Houston, TX 77045

HOUSTON, TX – May 9, 2018 – When the late City Council Member Larry V. Green  of District K passed away, people from every walk of life began sharing publicly about the many ways in which Green touched their lives. From constituents and colleagues to family members and friends, people continue to recount their various positive experiences with Green, a beloved public servant who had a spirit of doing good year-round.

In an effort to honor Green’s memory and to encourage community well-being, May 16th has been declared Good4Green Day in Houston. The date is also Green’s birthday. Good4Green is an initiative in partnership with District K that encourages residents in the greater Houston and surrounding areas to do something good for someone else. Good4Green includes a three-pronged approach: acts of kindness, civic engagement and community enhancement.

The first phase kicks off with a push for residents to commit acts of kindness on May 16th and to share those efforts on social media in hopes the goodwill will catch on and spread. Details about the civic and community enhancement phases will be announced at a later date.

In addition to Good4Green, there will also be a special vigil in Green’s honor on May 15th at 8 p.m. at the Southwest HPD Substation, located at 13097 Nitida St., Houston, TX 77045 in District K. Attendees are asked to wear green and to bring candles and lighters or matches to illuminate the atmosphere in honor the late councilman.

“When your life has had as big of an impact as Councilman Green’s, your legacy lives on. We believe he would have loved seeing Houstonians come together in such a big way,” said Carol Guess, General Counsel of The Guess Group and the originator of the Good4Green campaign. “When people all across this city begin showing kindness to one another, getting involved and taking pride in their neighborhoods, there will be a groundswell of positivity that we hope will be infectious.”

People participating in Good4Green can post their acts of kindness on Facebook (@good4green), Instagram (@good4green) and Twitter (@good4green1) with the hashtag #Good4Green.
