It’s official! Louisiana State University star basketball player Angel Reese is headed to the Women’s National Basketball Association.
The “Bayou Barbie” formally declared for the WNBA draft on Wednesday. The announcement came two days after the Lady Tigers’ season ended with a loss to Caitlin Clark’s Iowa in the Elite Eight round of the women’s NCAA tournament.
Known for her incredible fashion sense and bold personality, Reese made the announcement in a Vogue photo shoot. According to the Associated Press, she was inspired by the legendary Serena Williams, who announced her retirement in 2022 in a similar manner.
Reese acknowledged having made up her mind to turn pro before March Madness began, AP said.
“I’ve done everything I wanted to in college,” Reese expressed to Vogue. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten (Southeastern Conference) Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro — and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”
According to AP, Reese will likely join Clark, the expected No. 1 pick by Indiana, as one of the top players drafted on April 15.
