Lone Star College
Lone Star College-Houston North Fallbrook is serving students in new and innovative ways.
The concept behind this college location originated from a partnership between Fallbrook Church and Lone Star College. “The partnership between Lone Star College-Houston North and Fallbrook Church is the perfect example of how you can magnify the impact in a community through collaboration.” Said Dr. Quentin Wright, Campus President.
During the fall semester, this location witnessed a remarkable 40% increase in enrollment. Dr. Wright attributes this growth primarily to the implementation of new partnership initiatives with our local school districts. One example of such an initiative is the Teachers College Academy, launched by the Spring Independent School District. Through this program, students from Dekaney, Spring, and Westfield high schools can graduate with both high school diplomas and Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees.
Furthermore, Lone Star College-Houston North is also collaborating with the Aldine Independent School District on the Accelerated College Academy, which was introduced for the first time this semester. This partnership involves Benjamin O. Davis High School and Aldine Senior High School, where students attend classes at Lone Star College-Houston North locations. The
primary objective of this initiative is to support students in earning a minimum of core complete status or 42 college credit hours while still in high school.
In addition to these new programs, Lone Star College-Houston North is offering various wraparound services to support its students. To address transportation issues, METRO initiated a shuttle service earlier this year named the LSC Connector. The college also formalized an agreement with Fallbrook Christian Academy to provide childcare assistance to enrolled students. Starting in September, the Houston Food Bank will expand its food scholarship program to tackle students’ food insecurity. This program is an addition to the existing CARE Center, which serves as a food and basic needs pantry at all four Lone Star College-Houston North locations. The CARE Centers provide toiletries, snacks, and household items for the students.
While Dr. Wright recognizes the importance of enrollment, he emphasizes that what truly fills him with pride is the outstanding performance of the students. “I am very pleased that we are serving more students. However, I am most proud that since the inception of this location, students have completed their classes at a high rate.”
Lone Star College-Houston North consists of four locations within the North Houston region. These locations are inclusive of Lone Star College-Houston North Fairbanks, Lone Star College-Houston North Fallbrook, Lone Star College Houston North Greenspoint, and Lone Star College-Houston North Victory.
