A Houston-based small business, Three Keys Coffee, has been selected as one of the recipients of a program established by American Express and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to promote Black-owned small businesses. This recognition has enabled the company to expand its customer base. Three Keys Coffee has recently opened a stand-alone coffee shop in Houston’s Finn Hall, offering freshly roasted coffee to downtown diners.

The company was founded three years ago by Kenzel Fallen and her coffee-roaster husband, and has since focused on online sales, supplying Trader Joes grocery, and other coffee shops. Three Keys Coffee was named the best coffee roaster in Texas by Food & Wine magazine.

The Coalition to Back Black Businesses (CBBB) awarded Three Keys Coffee a $25,000 grant, which has facilitated their latest expansion. The CBBB aims to support struggling Black-owned businesses during the pandemic and drive meaningful change within the Black small business community. Fallen expressed her gratitude for the grant, stating that it is critical for Black-owned businesses to receive investment to thrive and succeed.

Three Keys Coffee is one of 14 recipients of the grant across the country and the only one in Texas. The program also provides resources such as business coaching and mentoring to ensure the long-term success of the businesses.
