Houston Fisk Alumni Association, Christ Church Cathedral, Houston Area URBAN LEAGUE to Celebrate Black History Month with Night of Music and Culture

HOUSTON — The Houston Fisk Alumni Association, in collaboration with Houston’s Christ Church Cathedral and the Houston Area Urban League will present “Voices Unshaken: An Evening of Legacy and Liberation” on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at the Christ Church Cathedral at 5:30 p.m.

This concert will feature performances by the Grammy-winning Fisk Jubilee Singers and the Houston Scott Joplin Orchestra, celebrating the enduring power of music to unite and inspire. The proceeds from the program are used to support scholarships, innovative programming, and Fisk University’s historic mission.

This event highlights:

  • A powerful live performance by the Fisk Jubilee Singers, preserving the legacy of
    spirituals that have inspired generations.
  • A collaboration with the Houston Scott Joplin Orchestra, showcasing the rich tapestry of
    African American musical traditions.

The event is part of Jubilee Weekend 2025, running from February 7-9, and includes choral master classes, community programming, and networking opportunities with key community leaders and organizations.

“Black History Month provides a unique opportunity to reflect on our rich history and the enduring importance of education and culture,” said Byron Cobbin, representative of the Houston Fisk Alumni Association. “This concert and weekend celebration will not only honor our heritage but also ensure a brighter future for Fisk University and the students it serves.”
