Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee Community Achievement Award

Jackson Lee was an icon honoree in the 2013 Inaugural Class of Top 30 Influential Women of Houston presented by d-mars.com. In 2016, the Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee Community Achievement Award was created in her honor. The first honoree was Roxann Thomas Chargois, the former director of the Western Area of The Links, Inc. Every year thereafter, women who have made incredible strides in the community have been given the award. Given that the award was in her name, she was a deciding factor in who would be given the prestigious honor.

“Through her persistent efforts, Sheila Jackson Lee has brought about substantial improvements in our community,” Davis explained when asked why he decided to create the award. “Her work in Congress has not only benefitted Houston but has also set a standard for public service nationwide, so it only made sense to name the award after her.”
