HOUSTON — The Houston Independent School District will hold job fairs on Saturday, May 4 for individuals interested in working at HISD’s New Education System (NES) and non-NES campuses in the 2024-2025 school year.

The two hiring fairs will take place simultaneously from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hattie Mae White (HMW) Educational Support Center and Delmar Fieldhouse, located at 4400 West 18th St., Houston, Texas 77092. Candidates seeking information on openings at the NES campuses should attend the fair at HMW; those wishing to explore opportunities at the non-NES campuses should attend the fair at Delmar Fieldhouse, located at 2020 Mangum Rd., Houston, Texas 77092.

HISD is recruiting teachers and other staff who want to be a part of the district. According to HISD officials, the district offers some of the highest teacher compensation in the nation. For the 24-25 academic year, the average starting teacher salary at the non-NES schools is $64,000. At the NES campuses, average starting teacher salaries are $75,335 for elementary school; $80,059 for middle school; and $82,816 for high school. Special education teachers in HISD earn, on average, $80,000 at the non-NES schools and $86,000 at the NES schools. The district also provides a $5,000 stipend for teachers who are bilingual, officials said. 

During the hiring fairs, school leaders from across HISD will be on hand to share information about openings at their campuses, including openings for:

  • Teachers, including Art of Thinking teachers
  • Assistant Principals
  • Counselors
  • Librarians/Media Specialists
  • Nurses
  • Office Support Staff
  • Teacher Assistants
  • Teacher Apprentices
  • Learning Coaches
