Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy: MLK Day Events in Third Ward

MLK Day of Service in Third Ward

Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and teachings by participating in a day of community action at Emancipation Park. This service project invites community members to join together in cleaning up and beautifying one of Third Ward’s most historic landmarks. Activities include picking up trash, weeding, mulching, and planting. All tools will be provided, and your efforts will help preserve the legacy of a park established in 1872 as a symbol of freedom and resilience.

Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church is hosting a special online event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, & Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence365, a powerful program that reflects on Dr. King’s unwavering commitment to nonviolence, justice, and equality.

Led by Pastor Cosby and church representatives, this inspiring presentation will explore how Dr. King’s dream remains as relevant as ever, offering hope and guidance in our ongoing fight for freedom and democracy. Hear heartfelt reflections from voices across the congregation as they share what Dr. King’s vision means for them today.

Experience an evening of musical and dance performances that pay tribute to Dr. King’s life and vision, as well as Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy. Hosted by the Community Music Center of Houston in collaboration with Silambam Indian Dance Arts Organization, this powerful event showcases how art transcends boundaries, connects us to history, and inspires action.
