Kicking Off Juneteenth in Houston: Celebrate Freedom Fest Returns to Emancipation Park

On Sunday, June 1st, Houston kicks off its 160th  annual Juneteenth  celebration with the 3rd Annual Celebrate Freedom Fest , held at the historic  Emancipation Park, (3018 Emancipation Ave, Houston, TX 77004) in the heart of the Third Ward Cultural Arts District.

This free, family-friendly event invites residents from across the city to gather at Emancipation Park, the oldest public park in Texas. The park, purchased in 1872 by formerly enslaved people, makes the perfect backdrop to honor the occasion. Event highlights include:

·  Kickoff ceremony commemorating the 160th year of Juneteenth

·  Cultural showcases representing seven historic Black neighborhoods

·  Live performances, art installations, local vendors, and youth programming

·  On-site interviews available with organizers, community leaders, and historians

Celebrate Freedom Fest is a collaboration among seven of Houston’s historic Black neighborhoods and reflects the unique culture, creativity, and pride of each community.
