Sarcoidosis is a disease that causes cells to clump together, creating inflammation and pain. The condition can affect every organ in the body, though 90 percent of patients have the illness in their lungs. The disease is potentially fatal, but most people die with it, not from it. There is no known cause and no cure. Comedian Bernie Mac battled the disease and related lung issues for years. He died of pneumonia in 2008 at age 50. Celebrities living and managing the disease: singer Angie Stone, actress Tisha Campbell, TV host Daisy Fuentes, and Judge Joe Brown to name a few.

About Janine’s Sarcoidosis Outreach Foundation & Support Group (JSOF)
Janine’s Sarcoidosis Outreach Foundation & Support Group – JSOF – is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization committed to empowering the community through sarcoidosis education and outreach. Based in Houston, Texas, JSOF was founded by Emma Carroll and named after her daughter, Janine Carroll-Grant, who succumbed in 2002 to pulmonary hypertension – a complication of sarcoidosis. The illness has no cause and no cure. JSOF is devoted to raising awareness about sarcoidosis and its related health issues through educational campaigns. The organization empowers those living with the illness through in-person, online and telephone support group meetings. JSOF activities also include teaching those with sarcoidosis to become advocates for themselves through stronger patient-physician relationships and to develop coping skills for long-term survival.
