The 10th Annual Sickle Cell Warrior Convention will kick off in Houston TX on Tuesday, July 18 at the JW Marriott.

To thank all of the Houston community for their continued support over the years, the Consortium will close out the convention at the Fifth Ward Multi-Sevice Center located at 4014 Market Street, with a Health Fair and Back Pack Drive from 12 pm to 4 pm.

“Despite our recent setback with our Sickle cell registry bill being vetoed by Governor Abbott we want Houston to know that we still feel the love and support and want to thank everyone for fighting alongside us for so many years,” said Dr. Tomia Austin of the As One Foundation.”

The As One Foundation and the Houston Health Department have partnered with the Consortium to host the health fair and provide the majority of the school supplies to the local school-aged children.

Local Businesses will receive free vendor booths to spotlight their business and the community will be treated to over 1500 backpacks and school supplies, as well as health screenings, and blood and marrow donations.

“I am delighted that the Health Department and the As One Foundation have joined us. The Sickle Cell Cell community is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds thanks to partnerships like these. Over the next ten years I am hoping to see Sickel Cell spotlighted on a global scale, but it starts here in our own backyard,” said Lakiea Bailey, Executive Director of the Sickle Cell Consortium.

If you would like to donate school supplies please visit the Amazon Wish List. Local businesses who are interested are asked to register for their booth.
