Summer Program Cultivates Future Cardiovascular Researchers

Bradley McConnell, professor of pharmacology at the UH College of Pharmacy, and Tho Tran, research assistant professor of chemistry at the UH College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, have received funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to create a summer research program to engage the upcoming generation of minority, underrepresented cardiovascular researchers in hands-on heart, blood and lung research.

Brazoswood HS Senior Breaks School’s Triple Jump Record a 6th Time, Set to Graduate

Brooklyn Baker, a straight-A student with a 3.8-grade point average, is known for accomplishments that have put a spotlight on Brazoswood High. She recently broke the girls’ triple jump record for the sixth time this past track season with a jump of 40 feet 1.5 inches and broke the girls’ long jump record with a jump of 19 feet and 9.75 inches.

North Shore HS Educator Named HAABSE Outstanding Secondary Teacher of the Year

Mrs. LaTisha Guillory, an English teacher at North Shore Senior High 10th Grade Center, was named the 2023 Houston Area Alliance Black School Educator (HAABSE) Outstanding Secondary Teacher of the Year for the entire Houston area in February 2024, a recognition given to educators who exemplify excellence in their field.
