HUMBLE, Texas — Don’t put up your cowboy boots just yet! Rodeo season isn’t over in the Lone Star State.

The Black Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls Association Heritage Day Rodeo will take place on Saturday, March 23, and will feature lots of music, delicious Southern cuisine, country fun and fellowship.

Happening at the Humble Civic Center, Heritage Day is an annual family tradition!

Here are some things to know before attending this year’s event:

Heritage Day is about celebrating the rich culture and traditions of the African-American families. The day is designed to bring families together in an atmosphere of tradition and fun. The Heritage Day theme is centered on the importance of remembering cultural heritage and to strengthen family traditions. The day consists of three major components:

  1. Black “Heritage Day” Rodeo features Black cowboys and cowgirls competing in the sport of rodeo. This includes bull riding, bronco riding, calf roping, steer wrestling and women barrel racing.
  2. Concerts: Enjoy the rich southern tradition of R&B and Zydeco music.
  3. Exposition: Includes a huge kid zone, games, rides, arts and crafts, and delicious southern cuisine.

BPCCA’s purpose is to create awareness and recognition for African-American men and women who have made significant contributions in the African-American community.

The organization’s goal is to maintain a college scholarship fund through various fundraising activities. Scholarships are awarded to high school graduates attending a four-year accredited college or university.

The organization’s vision is to host the largest African-American civic event in the Houston, Texas area. This event highlights the rich culture and traditions of the African-American cowboys and cowgirls.

Schedule

Gates open at 1 p.m. The line dance roundup will begin at 2-3 p.m. Keyun and the Zydeco Masters will perform from 3-5 p.m. Leon Chavis and the Zydeco Flames are scheduled to perform from 8-11 p.m.
