HOUSTON, TEXAS (March 15, 2021) — Local entrepreneur and Black engineer Devon Fanfair, founder of Just Wipes, donated 1,000 packs of sanitizing wipes to METROLift frontline workers at a donation event recently, which took place at The Just Wipes warehouse on Hirsch Rd.
METROLift frontline workers are unsung heroes of METRO services, providing accessible services and more to the Houston community. “We know that METROLift frontline workers are some of the most on-the-go people out there today,” said Fanfair, “but we also want to recognize all that they do for the community. This donation of wipes will help them feel safe and clean as they continue to go about their work caring for underserved communities in Houston.”
In addition to supporting riders’ needs, METROLift employees have gone above and beyond for Houston residents. Throughout the pandemic, METROLift workers have been delivering free groceries to people with disabilities and the elderly, providing free rides to COVID-19 tests, vaccination appointments and to the polls, and more.
At the core of Just Wipes’ values is a focus on the end user. Fanfair developed these on-the-go wipes to ensure greater accessibility and utility. The donation to METROLift represents a continuation of that value. Frontline workers with METROLift provide services with the end user in mind, bringing greater access to Houston area resources and every day needs.
While some view diversity as an obstacle to success in business, Fanfair used it as motivation to find creative solutions to systemic challenges, allowing Just Wipes to innovate despite starting out with limited resources. African Americans make up 33 percent of frontline workers in the transportation industry, and the ridership on local area buses is 60 percent African American.
Fanfair and Just Wipes hope to honor these parallels with their donation event beyond Black History Month. To learn more about Just Wipes, visit www.justwipes.com.
