Theatrical Master Class This Weekend Brings Hollywood to Houston!

Do you have what it takes to act but need a little direction?  Are your acting skills a little rusty and you need to brush up?  Hollywood comes to Houston this weekend, bringing you the best in theatrical preparation.  Marishka S. Phillips is well-known in the entertainment industry, so when you can be in a room with this acting coach, Broadway actress, accomplished director, and official New York casting director, you definitely take it.  September 24-25, 2016, Phillips is hosting the much anticipated two-day Theatrical Preparatory Master Class presented by Greta Williams of The Williams Group Phillips.

Williams is the creator of this event, or really experience is the more appropriate word.  She has a genuine and sincere love for the arts, and this weekend is definitely a labor of love for her.  Williams was trained at the prestigious Julliard School, receiving a master’s degree in vocal performance. Williams also taught at The Boys Choir of Harlem and was the performance manager in the Pre-College Division at The Juilliard School. She has toured Europe and performed with many notable artists.  “I love the stage and the many places you can go while there. I’ve studied with Marishka and she is absolutely amazing! I can’t wait for others to experience her.  This weekend will be informative, educational and unforgettable,” Williams says.

It was a no-brainer for Williams to have Phillips be a vital part of this experience because they both share the same spirit and mindset when it comes to the stage.  Phillips has a true passion, experience and an impressive resume when it comes to this business, as she has worked with celebrities Kerry Washington, Tasha Smith, and Elizabeth Rohm, just to name a few.   However if you think that Phillips is just here to teach a class, think again.  Phillips is currently casting for a feature film, so not only is she coming to pour into Houston talent, but she is also hoping to discover the best and brightest.  Attendees definitely want to bring their professional headshot, resume and monologue, but most importantly, their A-game.

“There is a misconception as to what it takes to be a thriving and working actor,” says Phillips. “It takes 10,000 hours to master a craft. Are you willing to put your heart in it? I will teach you the tools needed to book the gig. You will also learn the art of being private in public through the use of your fourth wall.”

Phillips will be joined by fellow working actors Shelton Jolivette, best known for his roles in the television series American Crime and movies Wolfe and Friday Night Lights; Kedrick Brown, Houston-based actor who recently landed a role on Oprah Winfrey’s new series, Greenleaf; Amelia Jeffries whose body of work includes more than fifteen independent films and several television productions; and Tamar Davis, GRAMMY®-nominated singer, songwriter and actress who gained notoriety singing and touring with Prince and recently appearing on NBC’s The Voice, Season X.

The event will be held on September 24-25, 2016 at Barnevelder Performing Arts Center (The Barn), 2201 Preston Street, Houston, Texas 77003. The two-day theatrical preparatory master class is open to actors, aspiring actors and those hoping to be discovered, ages 16 and up.  Please register at
