When many hear the word “diet,” they cringe. They imagine themselves starving, being deprived of regular food and eating nothing but fruits and vegetables all day. There are countless diet programs on the market promising magical quick results to give you the “perfect” body you have been dreaming about. However, the truth is that diets just don’t have the long-lasting effects that a healthy lifestyle does. According to the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, 95% of all dieters will regain the weight they lose within one year. Other credible health sources show that the deprivation of restrictive diets may even lead to a diet-overeat or a diet-binge cycle. The truth is that there is absolutely no quick fix to weight loss and health. Like the saying goes, “You didn’t gain it overnight, so you won’t lose it overnight.” Reggie Collier is a transformation specialist, nutrition adviser, and personal trainer who knows this all too well. Also known as “Reggie C,” this fitness expert that you see today has had his own personal struggles with weight. Taking his own personal experiences on his fitness journey, he now helps countless clients, especially women to get out of their comfort zone and get healthy.
Reggie is owner of Reggie C Fitness, and co-owner of Signature Physiques Studio in Houston, Texas. Reggie earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University. Like many, after college Reggie was not intentional about health and wellness. The excessive weight he gained due to not enough exercise and bad eating habits got to be too much, and he knew he had to make a change if he wanted to live longer. It was not an easy journey for him by any means, but he had to change his mindset. It was mind over matter, and with really dedicating himself to fitness and doing research, he became obsessed (in a good way) with health and wellness. Seeing the results with hard work in his personal life to get the best body gave him a passion and purpose to help others dealing with the struggles to get healthy. Reggie says, “When I wasn’t at my physical best, it definitely had an effect on me. Now that I am in the best shape of my life, I can help clients get to this level. I have to be an example. I use unorthodox, but effective methods to help my clients have long-lasting weight loss success.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity is common, serious and costly. More than one-third (36.5%) of U.S. adults have obesity. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008. The medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight. The CDC’s information is surprising to some, but not to Reggie. This is why he sees his work as more of a purpose. His sees first-hand what can happen when you combine physical activity with proper nutrition. He has not only seen the results on his own personal journey, but through the transformation of his clients. Reggie C Fitness produces real results with real work. Where some may see Reggie as achieving the transformation for his clients, he sees it in a different way. “While it is true that I am the trainer, my clients put in the work to get the results. I’m a motivator, helping them push their body to limits where they didn’t think they could go. I meet my clients where they are, but help take them where they want to go. I provide the guidance, but it’s up to the client to put in the work. This is why Reggie C Fitness works, because the client works,” says Reggie.
Though Reggie is a fitness professional, he’s also realistic, and doesn’t feel that you should totally deprive yourself of the foods that you love. Instead of that “cheat day,” he suggests a cheat meal. He stresses, “I recommend a cheat meal and not a cheat day, and this meal should be in the morning or mid-day. Having a cheat meal late at night before you go to bed is just going to sit on your stomach all night, turning into fat.” He knows that you should enjoy the foods you love, but not to the extent that it ruins all the hard work you’ve put in to lose weight.
Reggie works with female clients of all different ages and on all different fitness levels. His specialty is working with women who want to lose body fat and enhance their appearance by accentuating muscle development. He not only pushes his clients, but empowers and inspires them into a healthier lifestyle. He has actually created an environment that is more of a sisterhood of like-minded women who genuinely support each other on their health and wellness journey.
